Brian Walker with 5 Stones Media conducted a seminar that I was fortunate to attend. My favorite comment he made this morning was to handle negative comments out in the open.
I have a lot of clients who don’t want to use social media because they are afraid to get negative comments. Brian told a story of a local restaurant using social media to combat a negative comment through offering free services, and the negative commenter just returned and blasted the owners once again for a long wait and bad service. Well…
The faithful followers for the restaurant took the opportunity to mention how wonderful the restaurant was and how the service was outstanding. Their customers came to the rescue and made something that was ugly a positive outreach for the business.
Like I said, many of my clients are afraid of social media because of the negativity or simply because they don’t want to deal with it, but Brian said that in addition to understanding ROI, you
should understand COI, or the cost of ignoring. With 1 in 7 people on the planet using Facebook alone, you can’t ignore its power.
Thanks, Brian. Great info!
